From http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,372122,00.html:
quote:
The Panhandle is going through its second driest year on record, with the current year being drier than the Dust Bowl years of the 1930s.

...

Many farmers fear that if conditions do not improve, they may have to sell their farms and abandon their homelands.

Baker, whose ranch got a little rain last Friday, said of the drought continuing, for ranchers, "If it goes for two years, you're doing it for fun, because you're not making any money at it."

I've got a customer near Keyes, OK that frequently mentions the severity of the drought in that area. What a change from last year! He was yielding upwards of 75 bu on dry land wheat in 07. Thankfully, he stored the majority of his sorghum from 2007. The flip side is that he's not going to have a single acre produce anything this year unless he gets a significant amounts of rain ASAP.

How could rain possibly help at this point...shouldn't the harvest be underway about now? I know we used to harvest around the 4th of July.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to new crop sorghum.
