My wife and I have gone to a few churches but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good ones that we might over look. Thanks.

Depends on your "age group". I go to broadway church of christ because I have some good friends that go there but if you are looking for young married (24-30)....there are alot of bible churchs that will cater to you. Lubbock is weird because there is a church every 5 feet. I have heard good things about the bible church off of the loop and quaker I think.

I would have said the same thing if you said Baptists, Methodists, or the Presbies. No need to get all worked up. Lighten up.

This isn't a social experiment. This is about finding a church home.

So what are your leanings? Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian? Big or small? Traditional or contemporary?

Lotsa different choices around here.

We got to First Methodist downtown, but it's a pretty big church and pretty traditional.

There are more opportunities at a big church, yet I tend to feel a better connection with everyone in a smaller church. Right now, we are just looking for good suggestions. It doesn't matter. We have visited big and small churches.

Denomination does not matter. We just want a good church home.

Oh, and they must have good golfers in the congregation as well, and not golfers that take 15 mulligans to make their score look better.

I tend to be turned off by huge churchs. Trinity is big. So is Lakeridge Methodist. If I recall correctly, both had projections of the preacher on to a screen so people could see him better.

I'd check out Aldersgate Methodist, its on Indiana, south of 82nd. I really enjoyed it when I went and the people are just flat out great.

I go to a service called Porchlight. It started out as a branch of Aldersgate, but now it's a separate entity. We lost a fair amount of people in the split, so the community is really really small. Right now, we are in J&B's Coffee House on Sunday mornings through December. Past that, we don't know. Its a very nontraditional group. I love it even though I like traditional services better. Age group ranges from just post-college on up.

We aren't able to go to church up here much in the fall, because we spend so many weekends in College Station. However, we really enjoy Aldersgate UMC. I'm also glad to hear the Porchlight group is still meeting because I thought that ministry had ended. Aldersgate has a new pastor and he's very good and genuine. The previous pastor however was the best I've ever known. I kind of envy someone who can come in new and not be prone to compare. That's been an adjustment for us. That's not to down play the new pastor in any way because he is very good. It's kind of like comparing Missouri or tceh's offense to OU's. Very good just doesn't stack up against great.

I have heard good things about Aldersgate.

I go to Lubbock Bible Church. It is a small church of about 150, but the teaching is wonderful and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I would love to see ya visit. It is on the corner of 66th and Iola. Go west at the intersection of 66th and Frankford and it will be on your left about 3 blocks.

My family goes to Westminster Presbyterian, at 33rd and Indiana. We love it. It is a great mix of folks, and in our age group (30-45) we have made some great friends. Lots of golfers, in fact, the guys in this group meet every wednesday nite for golf during the summer. Beers afterwards.

This group also tailgates at the tceh games in the fall, even though a lot of us root against them. We fly my Aggie flag and an Ole Miss flag at the tailgates and have a good time with it.

This month is kinda sparse, as a lot of folks are gone for the holidays, but I would be happy to introduce you around one Sunday morning.

Sounds like you know this already, but I also encourage you to get as involved as possible. Took me years to realize that the more I put into my relationships at church, the more I got out. Ten fold.
