I got my undergraduate from Tech. KTXT always (no matter the football record) remained my pride and joy that I attended Tech. Now, it's gone. Off the air. Offline. No warning. Nothing.

This makes me dislike Tech, Lubbock, and West Texas. Apparently people out there don't understand the value of culture.

Never listened to KTXT, but I'm sorry it's offline.

And I agree that the majority of people at Tech don't understand culture.

I listened to KTXT briefly and just didn't like the music. I do listen to the tech NPR station. Radio in Lubbock is a sorry state of affairs, I don't know why FMX is still in business.

That being said, Amarillo College has the best radio station I've ever heard. And now KACV-FM, 89.9 streams on the internet.

KTXT is NOT culture.

That said, the type of radio that KTXT "taught" is passe'. It takes no training to be a radio DJ anymore, it takes a basic computer class.

The direction the program is going is more toward web-casting, podcasting, and other more up-to-date technologies.

I have always wondered how likely an independent radio station that plays Americana or Indie Rock in Lubbock would do. I have my doubts about the average radio listener in Lubbock's ability to tolerate music outside of the top 40 of their genre of choice.
