FYI--last time I was there, Mean Woman went to work at Larry's Smokehouse. (that sounds funny)
Go to Larry's, get you a Mean Woman just the same. The BBQ and cobbler ain't half bad, either. It's the only place I'll eat out in Levelland when I visit my folks.

East hwy 114, north side, right before you get to the holiday inn, if you're coming from Lubbock. The bldg used to the the Levelland Coop Gin office.

Was the Kansas Jayhawk team bound-and-gagged underneath the bleachers somewhere? I swear some tards must've kidnapped them and replaced them with the SPC team.

It's been many years, but I used to take a customer to breakfast at a little place in Levelland. I think it was near West Ave/10th Street. I aways used to leave a big tip so I would look like there was more than me eating on the expense report.

Two big breakfasts with OJ, coffee, etc was around $7. I'd leave at least a $5 tip.

Visited my parents in Levelland a couple of weeks ago. My elementary school is closed on the west side, but the east side has certainly increased development.

Mexi-teria used to have good Mexican food and barbecue, but it has sold. The food was horrible this last time! Won't be going back there.

I do miss the dry air. The humidity in Houston is not fun to run in.

EMY, I bet you're talking about Sonyia's on West Avenue. (I used to be "Zoog" BTW...I think we had that same conversation at the baylor game)

That was practically right next door to the elementary school LevelAg is talking about. I went there 1st through 3rd grade, Level. We moved from the country off of Fairgrounds Rd (now called "Black Gold" ) to the northeast side of town (Walnut St.) and I went to Capitol elementary after that. What year did you graduate high school?

I graduated in 1991.

Sonia's was Tommy's when I was at West. It was owned by Tommy Epperson, I think. We used to go over every Thursday afternoon with my dad and have a snack after school. Now you can add that to what I miss about Levelland.

I missed the Junior High when I was there 2 weeks ago. It's been totally demolished and removed -- just an empty grass lot with a few trees. They just put in a Skate Park where its tennis courts used to be.

I didn't miss that junior high at all. That place was a hell-hole.

It did have some historical value, though. The old building (three-story part) was where my grandfather went to high school from about 1929-1931.

I vaguely remember when it was Tommy's, too. I believe some of the Epperson family went to my old church (College Avenue Baptist) at one point.

Tapeworm,

Yeah, I had my locker on the third floor and classes on the opposite end first floor. Always late for classes in the afternoon.

When did you graduate?

What about "Waynebo's" in Levelland?
JasonD2005

"Waynebo's" is alive and well. It's actually not in Levelland--it can't be--and that's the genius behind Waynebo's.

It's in Opdyke West--which is essentially a trailer park with a town-charter. Thus, the council can permit the sale of package liquor inside its city limits. Hockley County is dry and Levelland only recently voted to allow establishments to serve alcohol-by-the-drink, but still no package stores. So Waynebo's reaps all the rewards from being the only package store in the county, plus they get to sell to the establishments in Levelland--not that there are that many. Last time I checked only Pizza Hut and the place that used to be Mean Woman had permits.

Bo Bowman (Waynebo's) is a shrewd businessman. BTW I think he's running for mayor.

Who would vote for a guy that chartered a DIFFERENT town near Levelland to become the mayor of Levelland?

I heard his opposition is a hair salon owner. I'm interested to see how this race goes.
JasonD2005

He won't win. He sells booze and First Baptist Church is too big.

Correct about the salon owner--and it's a dude.

I know the city is actually run by the city manager (or was when I lived there), but I'm concerned about a symbolic mayor from these choices.

My parents still live there, I keep forgetting to ask them what they think of their mayoral choices. Can't wait to hear what my dad says.
