Never been to 575, keep planning on trying it. I still like Tacos Garcia for Mexican (Ross/Osage north of I-40)

Blue Sky (SW corner of I-40 and Western) for hamburgers.

Hoffbrau is a good locally owned steakhouse, on the south side of I-40 between Coulter and Bell.

Don't bother with the Big Texan. To me, it's an average steak at a premium price. Only times I've been there have been with out-of-town guests who bought into the hype.

On the more $$$ end, Kabuki Ramonza is good, it's one of those "cook it in front of you on a grill" places with a neat interior decor. Good for groups. On the north side of I-40 between Coulter and Soncy.

If you're with a group that can't decide where to go, just drive west on I-40, exit Coulter, then stay on the service road toward Soncy. Probably 5-6 chain restaurants there in addition to Kabuki: Saltgrass, Famous Daves, Johnny Carino, Country Barn. And within a block or two of there: Furrs, On the Border, Red Robin, Fazolis, Applebees

If you are in Canyon for any reason:

Sayakorman's SE corner of the square - Thai
Feldmans on north 23rd - "American"
Fat Boys also north 23rd for BBQ
Hil's on south 23rd for Hamburgers (have the onion rings)
Pepitos 23rd just south of main intersection (4th Avenue) - Mexican

Gracias tony and Canyon.
I've actually been warned by a friend up there that Big Texan is a tourist trap. I've eaten at some Thai place near Medical Center and at Abuelos. Spent more time in Borger so I know all the great places there.

575 is good- good selection of beer, too.

El Tejevan is hands down the best Mexican food in town.

Pescaraz is good Italian.

Coyote Bluff for a great burger, Blue Sky is good, too.

Best breakfast burrito is in Hereford but not worth driving from Amarillo for, so I'm not much help there.

"My Thai" on the east side of Coulter between I-40 and Amarillo Blvd. Yeah, they are pretty good.

I learned that Rudi's Bar B Q does a good breakfast taco.
While I was waiting on my order, a guy from BNSF came in and picked up his order of over 500. Sounded like a pretty good rec to me.

575 is good, a little small but i guess it adds to the atmosphere.

Texas Fire House at Coulter and 34th has good philly style sandwiches and a great selection of draft beer.

Off the path place on sixth street called Cowboy Gelato. Its aggie owned and the owner is usually around at night really great guy. They have a hamburger that has cheese cooked into the middle of two patties that I always enjoy.

Been to the Rudy's in Amarillo twice and was disappointed both times. Doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as the one in College Station.

Best BBQ in town is at Jackson's. Great brisket, ribs, and pulled pork.

The Stockyards Cafe is always good for just basic Texas fare.

El Tejavan is great Mexican.

Coyote Bluff, you will stand in line for a burger. Great burger though.

Many great SE Asian restaurants to choose from up on the boulevard.

For sushi, there is no place better in Texas than Kabuki in Amarillo. Tad has had a restaurant in Amarillo since the late 70's. He is on his 3rd location and it improves each time.

You cannot beat the Stockyards Cafe for CFS.

Also there is a place on the southside of Amarillo called Country Pride. It is a mom and pop shop where almost all the patrons know someone in the cafe. It is very old school small town Texas cafe.

Had a cheeseburger with grilled jalapenos at Blue Sky for lunch. Outstanding! Grabbed some tacos para llevar at Joe Taco to watch Ags from hotel room. Pretty good. Ags fantastic! Planning on an Oscars Mi Familia burrito in AM. Out at Lake Meredith tomorrow so probably something fried, old, and tough, with a Tallsup. Planning on 575 for dinner. Thanks for tips y'all.

I was looking forward to seeing Meredith but ended up going to Tanglewood instead. Had a pizza from 575 last night. Very good. Thanks for all the help.

Any good non-smoking sports bars?

I liked texas firehouse, but I can't remember if it was smoking or not.

If you like Sushi, then Amarillo IS the best place in Texas and one of the best in the nation to find great sushi.

Tad is from Japan and came to the region in the early '70's as a grad student at WTSU.

He has family in the fish business in Japan so he has connections to great quality fish.

If I am in Amarillo, I always eat there at least one meal.

For just a basic steak, potatoes, and homemade rolls, you cannot beat The Stockyards Cafe.

575 is one of the better pizza places I've ever been to. I wish there was one in Lubbock.

Texas Firehouse is non-smoking and it is easily the best sports bar in town...

Hummer's is good too - but you should definitely give Firehouse a try - the food is a bit better than Hummer's IMO (highly recommend the Philly sandwiches).

Also - the on-tap beer selection at Firehouse is superb and they do a pretty good job of rotating new ones in...

looked up stockyards cafe phone number and it was disconnected....really wanted to try their CFS

so, I pulled off the feeder to Country Barn (wasn't real crazy about it, but needed to get out of town) - closed - looked like a fire.

So, I went across the parking lot to Salt Grass and ate a CFS there.

WOW - it was REALLY GOOD!!! One of the best ones I have had in a long time. I am not big on chain restaurants - but that was greatness.

Just thought I would report!

Country Barn is not good. I've only been once but I will not be back.

I went to Saltgrass last week and ordered the CFS for lunch and it was great! Very tender. Wish you could've made it to the Stockyards but I'm glad Saltgrass turned out okay for you.

If you need Mexican- go to El Tejavan.

Went there this past weekend. I didn't realize it had an Aggie affiliation at the time, but there were a few A&M things in the restaurant. I asked the cashier about it and he said that his dad was the Aggie. The place had good food.
