I was checking out the interactive 2011 Texas School District Accountability Ratings at TexasTribune.org LINK and was somewhat disconcerted to see that Canyon ISD was knocked down to "Academically Acceptable" ...

Some other ISDs with the "AA" rating were Amarillo, River Road, Pampa, Borger, Perryton, Dalhart, and Hereford. At least Bushland, Spearman, and Dumas have "Recognized" ratings ...

Change in ratings system. It's much harder to get a good rating, and I believe the whole district rating is the rating given to the worst school in that district.

That's my fuzzy understanding, perhaps a teacher or administrator can give us the straight scoop.

I'm pretty sure canyon is correct, just as the schools rating is based on there worst performing sub group, the district is based on there worst performing school. so in essence you could have one of the many subgroups tank it at one school and take down the whole district.

The weakest link in the chain, eh? All right, then. I'm blaming Canyon's fall from grace on those campuses located in Amarillo.

All you need to know about the new system's (lack of) ability to accurately assess a school district is the fact that Dumas ISD got a "recognized" rating...

these standards are nuts. My wife was so frustrated because she could only have 1 of her 8 special ed kids take a modified test, the rest were marked as "fails".

Wow, congrats to Dumas. I would have never assumed my old high school was anything better than passable.
