I just moved from the pan handle to kansas and work in the grain business and do alot of corn trading and was wondering if anyone knew what the corn market was doing there?
Sort of, I was actually looking for the actual value of corn at the location. I sell alot of corn to feeders across Kansas the price varies alot across the state.
I'm just a farmer, not a grain trader, so maybe I'm missing it. The stuff I posted is price paid to the farmer, so it is usually some basis less than nearby futures, like 80 or 90 cents under Chicago or KC.
Are you asking what it takes to buy grain from the elevator to feed cattle?
Yeah, pretty much. I wouldnt call myself a trader, a grain elevator that loads shuttles but since the domestic market is so crazy I am buying alot of field direct corn to feedlots for all over the state. It is starting to get ridiculous because some of the these guys are starting to feed wheat.
Where do you farm? I used to run a cotton gin and elevator in the area.
Elevators are offering 0.25 over in the northeast panhandle right now. A month ago I heard corn was 0.50 over around Dalhart. Not enough corn for the feedlots this year. Seems like it was a -.10 basis at harvest last year.
