I'm really surprised that this discussion has not had more input from this board.
Carry on...

It stinks. But my kids are out of high school, so I don't care as much as I once would have. And they didn't go to Amarillo schools anyway.

Best solution? Disband UIL or at minimum get it out from under the t.u. system. Start moving state championship games all around the state, not just Austin every freaking year.

Yikes. And I thought the bus ride from Canyon to Perryton was bad ("Like an odyssey to the ends of the earth, replete with intrigue and adventure every step of the way. Wake me when we get there, will ya?", as one of my fellow bandsmen used to say).

It's hard to get around the fact that most of the population in Texas is generally located in the portion of the state bounded by the Metroplex, Austin/San Antonio, and Houston. And that's where most of the future population growth will occur, too.

Yeah, it stinks. Lots of traditional rivalries are going away...Coronado/Monterey, A&M/Tceh...might as well move the Cowboys to the AFC.

actually, during my HS days, PD played Midland High and Fort Worth Paschal or Riverside on home and home. I HATED to go down off the caprock into humid, hot, sultry games comparitively. Our team was zapped before halftime when we played those away games.
Never have understood how Tech can do so well when they play in College Station - night games help them (all of us) of course.
When I first went to the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas Hurricane Carla had just blown through Galveston and the dorms were full of refugees...
fish camp was extended at Palestine and guess who got to spit shine the dorms with toothbrushes after the refugees left...
Didn't stop raining until after Thanksgiving.
Had to go to Code 10 movies in Guion before we could go home. Jake (the Snake) Nicholson '64 would make the trip from CS to Amarillo in 8 hours easily.
Others (after watching Code 10) could make the trip drag on for 12 hours or more...
You could hitchhike it that fast...

I saw that the hTs appeal to uil was denied. Why would AISD not want to redistrict and save on the travel expenses the Rebels will rack up? Makes no sense unless it's their
way of ensuring the favorite son advance
against 4a competition.

absolutely concur BTH...
To redistrict is apparently not a big deal in AISD - and the "choice" could be given to those who choose not to move.
I'd move the line from Andrews to say, Olsen, or furthest at I-40 and see how the chips fall...
The county line just happens to fall directly in neighborhoods and never made sense at all anyway...

I'd hate for Andrews or north of there to fall.

I saw a graphic once that showed the population shift that corresponded with people moving to be near the highways and it was pretty amazing.

The towns in the panhandle that seem to be doing well are on the busy highways.
