I don't know if anyone on here keeps up with WT football or not, but Donny Carthel was just fired for an NCAA violation this summer. I grew up with his youngest brother.

Seems weird to me. He was successful, and the football players I've had contact with seem to be good kids. I'm not close to any of it, but a few rumors seem to indicate he and the University President did not get along, and the Prez seized an opportunity to can him.

As I understand, he bought some football players tickets to a Rangers baseball game when they were all in DFW. But they repaid him before they even attended the game, so there was no violation.

Really weird.

According to his written statement, the players reimbursed him after the game. He told the players to say they reimbursed him before the game because he wasn't sure about the NCAA rule. AD nailed him on that. There was apparently bad blood between him and the administration, and they screwed him over.

I grew up with his nephew. Pretty much what yall are saying is what I have heard as well. Athletic director and President didn't like him, so they used the ranger tickets to can him. It wasn't an NCAA violation as they stated, they really fired him because he lied to them and they hid behind the NCAA to justify their decision. They have been trying to justify their decision by saying WT would lose funding if they didn't fire him because the NCAA would come down on them, which is a blatant lie. So they are lying to justify firing someone for lying. Bottom line, he got screwed and people are pissed.

Should have just suspended him for half a game.

I attended his football camp every summer in high school. Between drills he would take time to play catch and talk to individual campers. He was an incredibly nice, down to earth man. I hate to see this happen to him.
