I don't recall this happening, and I can't find any link in any of the local media.

When and where did this occur?

And I have a personal question. Can you email me?

Email link is in my profile.

Chuck works with my wife. There has never been any news reported on this accident.

There is also a pretty cool story about his Aggie Ring. It was knocked off his finger when the accident happened. Two of his co-workers spent the next day combing the accident site with metal detectors and were unable to find it. One of Chuck's family members called the Association of Former Students to inquire about a replacement and the paperwork was submitted. Shortly after the paperwork was submitted an random stranger walking down the road found his ring and actually called the Association. The person at that fielded the call happened to have the replacement paperwork on their desk and got the stranger in touch with the family member. Chuck is a great guy and did his best to protect his son. He is back in Amarillo now but will likely have to return to Dallas for more surgery.

I didn't see this on the Zoo or the outdoors board, but you might want to post it on both. Nice-looking family, terrible story.

Sometimes terrible circumstances bring out the best in people. Chuck and Paige Tucker can attest to that.

THe day of Jan. 24 started like any other day for the Tuckers. Paige is an RN and first year health science technology teacher at Canyon High School. She, along with Carrie Guthrie, her fellow teacher at CHS, and about a dozen members of their classes joined Randall High School health science teachers Juli Gwyn and Amber Hall and about 22 members of their class on a shared bus ride to El Paso for a regional competition. It was about a nine hour ride by bus, and they arrived early in the evening.

Meanwhile, back home in Canyon, Chuck, who grew up in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School, was out with his 16-year-old son. “He has a hay business,” Chuck explained.

“We had gone to pick up a trailer he was going to use for the hay run the next day. I don’t remember any of this, but the way the story goes, we had just picked up the trailer and the brakes were locking on it, or something wasn’t right. I had gotten out of the truck to go check on the brakes. Apparently, when I had gotten out and was walking around the trailer, was when I got hit by a passing car that was coming the opposite direction from the way we were headed.”

That accident, which occurred about 6:30 p.m., crushed Chuck’s pelvis, caused life-threatening internal injuries and did structural damage down to and including his knees.

“About 7 o’clock Paige got a call that Chuck had been seriously injured and she needed to come home as soon as possible,” Juli Gwyn said. “He was going into surgery. She couldn’t even think.”....
