I keep trying to figure out why these forums are divided geographically and how to increase the participation in this particular board. Thank goodness for CanyonAg77 or it would be bleak indeed...

Correct me if I'm wrong but to me this board should be all about A&M of course - but the fact is that FRiday Night Lights, the Caprock, Olgallala water issues, etc., much more identifies with a different picture than these boards allow. To me this "area" should include all of the Panhandle to about Childress and on down to about Midland-Odessa and possibly to include far West Texas out to El Paso. Those of us who grew up in the area described that I know about have a much greater closeness than further East towards Vernon and beyond and down 287.

is much more in line with what I am familiar with and wonder if those of you who read this forum and perhaps TexAgs Staff (if informed...) might agree? ...

Wichita Falls (to my knowledge?) has never identified very much with the high plains/Panhandle/Caprock area - in fact everyone I've known from there is in the D-FW area as much as possible - and identifies with areas from the Red River to Abilene much more than our area of the state... No disrespect, but it seems a lot more participation would occur within areas of familiarization??

If it weren't for the Waggoner Ranch maybe that would not be true ... Which, by the way, Apparently is now for sale for $725million - all 510-520,000 acres of it...

Regardless, the map above is much more in line with how I believe Texas is truly divided.

I know there is a lot of support for a solid "East Texas Sliver" but that really isn't the way the state thinks. When DFW and Houston decide to be civil that might be true, but I have yet to see it...

Indeed, just about everything west of I-35 is considered no-man's-land and desert by most Texans who are from the East (except maybe the Hill Country )... I think everyone likes Fredericksburg??

Me personally? I grew up in Amarillo, 2 of my children were born at Altus AFB, OK, one at Shepard AFB Wichita Falls, and two in San Antonio (one in Germany, one at Bethesda) - We have lived in College Station, San Antonio, Austin, Irving/Fairview/McKinney, Wichita Falls so I think I have a grasp for an opinion.

I'm just not sure the TexAgs staff appreciated these regional differences when they divided up the forums... What say you??

There was a discussion about the borders a while back and everyone agreed to disagree.

To me, the panhandle is a part of west Texas and is actually a sub-region of west Texas.

Also, I would start west Texas not far out west of Fort Worth.

Look for lots of opinions and not many answers.

Texas A&M seems to agree that the panhandle is part of west Texas as West Texas A&M is in Canyon.

Texas A&M had nothing to do with it. The name originated 80 years before A&M entered the picture.

1910 West Texas State Normal College established.
1922 name change to West Texas State Teacher's College
1963 name change to West Texas State University
1990 name change to West Texas A&M University as WT joins the A&M system
