My son got a ticket for 10% over posted speed. JP court, Hon. Carol Smith.

Just looking to do defensive driving or deferred adjudication, if allowed in Dallam county. Very common in the Dallas county, or are they going to stick it to the city slicker to just pay the damn ticket?

Thanks in advance.

Do you really need a lawyer to call up the JP's secretary and ask for DA or DD?

Canyon, I took your advice and called the JP court. I actually spoke to a real person who gave me options and we conducted the transaction over the phone.

This would never happen in the City. You are blessed to live a part of the state where competent people work for local government and eager to resolve issues.

Thanks for your advice.

Glad it worked out. I have asked for DD or DA myself before. I couldn't comprehend it would take a lawyer to get what the JPs up here offer by asking.

Just be glad you slowed down through Clayton, NM. They have ridiculously slow limits, and they extend incredibly far out of town.

Next time you head that way, PM me, and I'll tell you how to get from Clayton to Raton on top of Johnson Mesa, as opposed to the boring US87 that goes south of the Mesa. Beautiful drive.
