Pedro exploded onto the national scene in 1961. Sports Illustrated did a story on Pedro

"When he ran, it sometimes looked like a comedy was being staged," Davis said. "Guys would trip over each other or he'd cut back and two defenders would run into each other. If he ever got a step on you, it was over."

He was a third-team All-American as a sophomore, leading the country in scoring and was second in rushing.
