In case anyone is interested, Tuesday night's (April 25) "Taste of America With Mark DeCarlo" at 7:30 pm will include a piece filmed in Oslo. It's listed on Dish Network as "pheasant season in Guymon, Okla.".

For what it's worth, my younger brother and a former high school teacher of mine demonstrate how to cook pheasant.

I'm wondering exactly where they cooked the pheasants.

I think they did it inside my brother's shop.

My mom used to make Pheasant and Dumplings.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

My buddy and I brought back - lets just say: "our limit" - and we plan on trying to deep fry them like turkeys - thought it sounded good.

Anyone else have experience doing this?

Someone mentioned this morning that my old high school principal was in a commercial for the show saying "It tastes like chicken".

Two of my nieces are likely to be on there, too, at least briefly.

Burdizzo and I just watched it:

1. waiting for people to tell you your neices are pretty (they are!)

2. So what's so bad about Bush hog discs for cooking?
(btw great idea!)

Good show, awesome showing. too bad they couldn't hit anything that day!

It looks like everything but the cooking/eating was in Oklahoma.

OK, so on eother segment of the show was on fried green tomoatoes in Arkansas. They used flour and chicken fried the tomatoes. Odd. I have only had them fried in cornmeal like catfish.

You don't make it out to the farm much do you?!

OK, maybe it is just a regional reference/saying. . . .

meatball:

I know most people use the generic term bush hog to refer to a mower/shredder or the act thereof, but back in the 1980's Bush Hog actually made larger implements including large disk harrows. My brother still runs the 16 ft tandem disc my dad bought in 1982.

See the yellow letters.

Perhaps, I should have told Jersey Girl to reference Krause or Rhome.

Oh, I know Bush hog made a tandem disc a few years ago.

But, I have never heard a disc (tandem or offset) referred to as a: 'Brush hog disc"!

I guess I never thought of it as the 'major player' in tandem production (ala Kleenex for tissues).

Like I said - it may just be a 'regional thing'! (for example what we referred to as a 'sweep' plow had 4'+ blade - other people call a plow with 12" blades a 'sweep' - just different regions)

I knew they filmed the show before the opening of pheasant season in Texas. I assumed that pheasant season in Oklahoma opened earlier.

But they opened it on December 1 in Oklahoma. The show was filmed in mid November.

So what they did was fake the hunt. When they shot, they weren't shooting at the pheasants. It was all for show.

The pheasants they cooked were left over from last year.

There is an outtake of the show on their web page, now. It's the last one on the right (use the slider) at http://travel.discovery.com/fansites/taste/videogallery/videogallery5/videogallery5.html.
