Amarillo has a downtown area with tall buildings.

Well that's good to know... that means they're not getting all those syphilis and clap cases from the cattle.

I grew up in between the two (Hale Center), so I have some opinions.

Dust level Lubbock >>>>>>>> Dust level Amarillo. Lubbock's surrounding land is probably 75% cropland, and 90% of that is cotton. From December to May, that means almost "0" ground cover. Also, the soil itself has more sand than the soil further north, so March in Lubbock is horrid.

Amarillo has probably <50% crop land surrounding it, the rest is grassland that does not blow. Of the crop land <20% is cotton, and of the remaining 80%, probably 50% of that is winter wheat, which does not blow in the spring. Corn and sorghum (the other 50%) leave good residue in the soil, that makes it much less likely to blow in the spring.

Canyon,

I remember the days in Lubbock when the lights around the loop would come on at 3pm due to the dust in the air causing a lack of light on the ground.

I have a picture somewhere of this. It is really eery.

It is difficult to describe if you have never seen, which I am sure you have.

The sum of Amarillo's white trash > the sum of Lubbock's WT.

That and Lubbock's girls are unmatched, I would say, in the country. There are few colleges with the number of hot girls I remember from my high school.

Lubbock has the edge in most categories. As for the dust, there is certainly more in Lubbock because of the reasons mentioned above. That being sad, the wind seems to blow a little harder in Amarillo, and it is certainly colder in Amarillo in the winter. All in all, both towns are allright in my book.

Is either town ringed by suburbs full of pretentious, over-extended, dull-as-dirt, race-baiting twits? If not, then you are both Dallas' beyotch yet again.

If Amarillo > Lubbock means farther North, then OK, but for everything else

Lubbock > Amarillo

If Lubbock didn't have Tceh it wouldn't even be considered a city. Dust,STD'S, worst fans on Earth. And Amarillo's "professional" sports are much better.

If Amarillo didn't have I-40, it would be considered a cold non-city. We can play the "if" game all night long.

By far? You have do drive 15 minutes to get alchohol. Same nightlife's, if not an advantage to A-town. And how do you like it in the middle of summer when there is no frat kids making the "party last all night long."

Very easy to find yourself in a fight with a drunk frat boy in Lubbock.

Very very easy to find yourself in a fight with a drunk only-in-town-from-the-ranch-for-one-night-so-lookout cowboy in Amarillo.

But until he drinks too much, at least the cowboy is a good hand.

The first words that came out of my girlfriend's mouth when we drove through Lubbock were "Eww, where are we?" And she used to live in Tucson.
