The most well-known is the Big Texan, but it is definitely not the best.

What is your favorite?

The K-Bob's in Hereford.

(at least, that's my favorite for taking my Friona in-laws to when we're in town)

Not exactly what I was thinking of, but I understand your reasoning.

"somewhat-related" being the operative words.

Lone Star Grill on the Claude Hwy across from the Drag Strip is not bad. I have not been there in a few years though.

The best steaks in Texas are at Ft Griffin Steak house in Albany.

Not too far out of the Panhandle. In a Texas kinda way.

Tom Perini's at Buffalo Gap are a close second.

EDIT: What am I thinking! The livestock auction in Amarillo. Some of the best steaks you will find. Once again I have not been there in awhile. I have to go back home soon and check back in on some of my old haunts I guess.

They had homemade rolls. But unfortunately no beer. But I guess you get accostomed to that in the Panhandle.

Hands down not even close.....Cattle Exchange Canadian Texas. Voted "Best of Amarillo" other places to eat or category like that.

Doc, don't they serve up the flesh on a stainless steel platter at that place? If we're on the same page...hell yea

Sounds pretty good. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll have to check it out.

Instead of Ounces they do there steaks by inches. 1" 2" Ribeyes. Kinda pricey but the wife and I make a run down their once a month to eat. Outstanding fries and the bread pudding finishes it off right. Excellent place to go try.

We ate there when we went Pheasant Hunting in December. Pretty tasty animal flesh!

MMMM... Perini's is fantastic.

If you are ever at the Big Texan, be sure and tip the bass player in the band. That's my dad!

I'll second Cattle Exchange.

Also try Buffalo Grass in Panhandle and Texas Rose in Pampa.

I will second David's. It is DAMN good. Now the big Texas, NO WAY.

Big Texan is adequate, but too expensive for what you get.

I haven't heard of David's, what can you tell me about it?

In Canyon, I recommend Feldman's for an all-around restaurant, and Pepito's for Mexican.

Hereford's KBOB's doesn't hold a candle to Dimmitt's.

I took some folks from Houston to Albany one Thurs night; and told them that they would eat the best shrimp they had ever eaten. They laughed at me.

But after about 3 plates each, they agreed that they had never had any better.

And the steaks are better than the shrimp.

I'm a little late to respond, but David's Steakhouse is very good.
They also have good blueberry muffins that they bring around.

Lubbock is in the South Plains, but I'll add that Cagle's has the best steaks here.

Double Nickle is too high for the quantity.

Double Nickel > Cagle's, although I do like the atmosphere out at Cagle's.

There's a new place, Willie's, on I-27 between Amarillo and Canyon. I thought it was pretty good when we tried it tonight. Lots of other folks did, too, it was pretty busy. It's closed Sunday and Monday.

We had the 10 oz ribeyes (with mushrooms), salad baked, potato and iced tea: $20 per person plus tip. I believe the burgers are big and much more reasonable.

Cagle's is good. Ate there this past weekend for the 1st time. I think they only serve rib-eyes. Some recipe the owner learned back in the day when he was hearding cattle or something.

Went to another place in the depot district, I think it was called tripple J's. It was OK.

Of course the wait staff did have some talent at both.

David's has been around forever. They've got excellent steaks, the marinated filet is great and if they have any prime rib left it's worth a try. Darlene will take care of you.

Randy's in Wildorado was awesome (is it still in the truck stop)? it was so strange eating at a truly gourmet restaurant with a great wine list, in an old truck stop in he middle of nowhere along I-40.

Also try BL Bistro, another great place. Not a steakhouse but a good menu.
