I will be up in the north panhandle during the first weekend of nov. and dec. I am looking for a place to hunt ducks or geese near hansford county. Anyone want to lease their lake out for the day. I would like 11/30.

let me know if you have something or know of something.

thanks

When I was a kid, we had water in our pond and a plentiful supply of ducks.

These days, what little water we get doesn't stay around long.

When people had irrigation run off we had a nice little pond full of catfish. now it is a dry hole

Our pond did well from irrigation runoff, but we also seemed to get more rain in the 60s.

It usually seemed like we'd get one or two rains of about six to nine inches each every summer. The water would come up across the road and make it difficult to get away from the house.

Not now.

This has been a wet year, but we have been in a dry cycle for about the past 10-15 years, it seems (no numbers to back that up).

Add to that the huge increases in pumping cost and irrigation efficiency, and the big playa lakes full of tailwater are a thing of the past.

In our case, the lake was created by erecting a dam across a creek.

The creek basically starts about half a mile from the dam. It really only becomes what we'd call a creek at the dam itself.

I suspect that before the land was farmed, the creek may have started another half mile to a mile west of it and that the little bit that was there was plowed under and filed in.
