I would normally say the shortest , but that may nto be true.

I know from San Angelo it is fastest, IMHO to go to Eden, to Junction then the rest of the way on 10.

Not sure if you can drop down to 10 quicker to maybe Ozona. The more time on 10 the faster you ave. MPH.

It always looks quicker thru sipland, but the traffic is nuts.

Probably 349 to 10 now that the speed limit is higher. There are fewer stops and slowdowns through towns, but you better have some CDs or satellite radio.

I get the idea to take the smaller highways through Austin sometimes and usually regret it after sitting for a few hours in the parking lot they call their freeway system.

If I do the back roads thing, 87 to 190 to 36 to 10 isn't horrible, but its a longer route.

Goto maps.google.com
Click on [Get Directions]
From: Midland, Texas
To: Houston, Texas
Flip-flopped Houston to Midland does bring up the same map reversed instructions.

518 miles – about 7 hours 56 mins (YMMV)

I'm not trying to be an ass here, but that brings up the exact path I have used for 14 years to get Midland to Katy.
Note: If you think you MIGHT need gas between Ozona and Midland, the Big Lake is about the only shot you have.

Also from Ozona to at least Junction and maybe to Kerrville is 80mph.

agree with previous poster....

go to ozona, get on I-10, take loop around SA, and take I-10 the rest of the way. simplest route with the fewest chances of having any traffic problems.

It's 80 from outside El Paso all the way through Kerrville. I think it was faster to go through Fredericksburg before the limit increase, but we may have just gone that way because it's more fun.

If driving at night watch out for deer when you exit in Ozona to just outside of Midland.

I have not been thru there this winter but the deer can be thick near the roadside in that 100 mile or so area.

I know what you meant. That is the best way to get there, especially if you book early with Southwest or find a Dingfare.
