(Do you consider Del Rio a part of South or West Texas? -- just wondering if I put this on the right board)

I'll be in Del Rio for 6 weeks this summer and was curious about the night life, recreational activities in the area.

Advice on things to do or see would be appreciated...and places to stay away from!

Thanks.

If you are a girl... do NOT go across the boarder by yourself

“230 years ago, our forefathers fought a war to throw off the yoke of a European monarch and gain the freedom of self-determination. Texans long ago decided that the death penalty is a just and appropriate punishment for the most horrible crimes committed against our citizens. While we respect our friends in Europe, welcome their investment in our state and appreciate their interest in our laws, Texans are doing just fine governing Texas.”

Statement by Robert Black, spokesman for Texas Governor Rick Perry, concerning the European Union’s appeal that Texas enact a moratorium on the death penalty:

Live in Del Rio. As for nightlife there are a couple night clubs. The most upscale ( does not play tejano) is the Herald which is actually a restraunt/martini bar. Other clubs are Club Ariba (dance and tejano) and Diamond Lils (country). Personally I let my wife cross the border by herself or with her sister all the time on weekends. Now she stays to the main strip and mainly in Crosby's and Corona club. Weekends can still be happening on the mexican side during the summer- lots of fishermen in town. Eat a Crosby's (George straight fame, and the location for Selma Hayeks bookstore in desperado). Corona club is a good country bar and can be really busy with college students if there is a concert.

Recreation- LAKE AMISTAD- SAN FELIPE SPRINGS (really good for snorkling). Hiking. If you want some cool weather and can drive a couple hours head up to alpine for a day or two. Mid july with lows in the 50's is great.

You do not have to have a passport yet, but you do need your birth certificate if you do not have one

Around here you have to make to make an appoitment to go to the PO and apply for your passport- that in itself can take several weeks. I have heard it is much quicker away from the boarder.
