What is there to do fun in Odessa? We have already been to the museum, the mall, and the rodeo. It seems like we are running out of things to do. Is there something that you would suggest we visit?

Most Odessans and Midlanders drag their boat to San Angelo, 'cause I think you have done everything to do that is in Ector and Midland Counties...

Not in Odessa, but you can drive up to the Roy Orbison Museum in Wink and experience first hand why he wrote a song entitled "Only The Lonely."

Where is Wink ?

Drive west on 302 through Notrees and Kermit and then turn south on 115 to Wink.

If you go on a weekday you might have to call the phone number on the front door to get a volunteer caretaker of the museum to come over and open it up for you.

They can also tell you where to drive by the house Roy lived in when he wrote "Pretty Woman."

Then continue south on 115 meeting I-20 at Monahans.



Now turn back towards Odessa on I-20 and just east of Monahans are the sand dunes at the state park just off the interstate.

They're worth the short side trip.

Make this drive while listening to a Roy Orbison CD and a Buddy Holly CD.

There, I've planned a nice day trip for you.



I've actually played gigs at The Bar over in Midland.

It's a little rough, but the beer's cold and they have decent bands on weekends.

I'll be 65 in July and I think that round trip through Wink and Monahans and back to Odessa is about 175 miles.

Ohh..sorry, I edited out the wrong part. LOL! Uggh..175 miles is a bit further then I would like to drive. I am already going to have to drive 8 hours just to get to Odessa in the first place.

I agree with the Sandhills! Just about 30 miles west of Odessa on I-20

Yeah, that's probably what we are going to do.

you can even drive to the resivour by imperial or make the short drive to hobbs for the casinos.... or this weekend in midland is the ranchjam at the popular bar the ranch. tons of music food and drinks.
