I haven't lived in Abilene for about 4 yrs, but I am tired of the sunset and restaurant (open or closed) threads on this site.

How about the cross-town rivalry? Who will have bragging rights this year? Which team has the chance to make it deep in the play-offs? Who is rebuilding verses reloading this year?

both schools are starting out in the preseason top ten. AHS is around #8 in 5A and CHS is at #3 in 4A. I believe Wylis is around 20 in 3A.

Hard for the rivalry to be maintained since Cooper dropped to 4A.

They should do quite well there, though.

they still planning on playing non-district every year? be a shame not to.

i still blame the dissolving of that once great district to SAISD's commitment to elevate Central to all things great and holy and to crap on Lake View year in and year out.

Eagles vs Cougars at Shotwell Stadium

CCAgDad- I think most of the rivalries got screwed up, from an Angelo stand point when they broke up the old District that had Angelo and Big Spring in it.

Oh and to add a restaurant comment in here, when there are playoff games in Angelo visitors still rave about steaks and TexMex in Angelo.

I never understood removing Angelo from that district and making them drive past Abilene, Midland-Odessa, to go to the Panhandle.

By the way, its good to see AHS performing at the level they have for several years now. I saw the AHS v. Southlake game a few years ago. AHS could have won that one.

and the Southlake game last year that AHS did win, was one of the best football games I've ever seen, of course coming out on the winning end helped a lot.....

I moved to Abilene in 1996 as I accepted a weather position at KTXS, and I got caught up in the excitement of Cooper football that year.

I volunteered to do what ever so that I could ride along with the sports guys during the playoffs.

My biggest thrill was that I was the 50 yard line camera operator for the Cooper/Westlake championship game. If Drew Brees or D. Rhodes was out of focus, then I was to blame!

I also was the press box camera guy for whoever was playing at Shotwell on Friday Nights. High school football just isn't the same now where I live in Tulsa. I miss those West Texas football days...

George have you caught any of the Jenks HS games? Alot of good players seem to come out of that school.....

Yes, I've seen Jenks and they are the incredible superpower you've probably heard of. Their football facility rivals that of Southlake Caroll or anyone in Texas. Jenks is cool because they are maroon and white!

When Jenks and Tulsa Union play each other, it's usually in front of a crowd in the 30,000 range.

Ag in Tulsa, I didn't realize it was the George Flinkenger of KTXS fame. I remember you mentioning the Shotwell games occasionally during your evening news cast. My young daughter had a crush on you and my wife tuned in to see what tie you were wearing! I had a aviation weather course with LeeAnn Allison,and Gary Strickland use to do the sports when I was growing up in Corpus, so needless to we were pretty loyal KTXS fans.

Abilene isn't west texas! j/k!

Just moved to Abilene this year and I've never been to a West Texas HS football game. Which one should I go to tomorrow night?

Just checked out the ARN to see how the Cougars were doing and I happen to catch a glimpse of their new uniforms. YIKES. Those are BAD!
