Me and some co-workers are coming down to Odessa for the Oil Show. Can anyone give me any suggestions for some nice restaurants in town? Not chains like Chilis. Appreciate the thoughts.

Me thinks from the lack of response, you get the idea of restaurants in Odessa.......

We can certainly include Midland then. Is Wall Street and Luigis still in downtown Midland?

Both there. Both great.

You might also try Cancun Grill downtown. It's in a high rise on Wall Street. Not Tex-Mex, but authentic Mexican Cancun-style fare.

Very good.

The Barn Door is in Odessa - for steak.
I know Luigi's is open, at least they were 2 weeks ago, when we ate there.
Swing by Saucedo's Tamale factory on South Grandview for breakfast burritos and hot tamales.

Hooters.

Seriously, though, what do you mean by nice? Do you mean more upscale and fancy (i.e. Wall Street), or just a more casual place that serves good food (i.e. The Bar)?

The last time the wife and I were in Odessa, we tried Osaka Japanese Steakhouse over on JBS Parkway, just off 42nd Street. It was pretty good, and a nice change from the usual places we go to when in Odessa/Midland.

Thanks. I had forgotten about some of those places. I gre up there, but it's been a while. Does the barn door still give you that huge slab of cheese?

The Barn Door cheese and bread are the whole reason I skip breakfast anytime we plan to go there for lunch. You have to leave plenty of room for all the good food they'll put in front of you.

I also grew up in Odessa, and returned this spring for the first time in well over 10 years.

I found Wall Street to be HUGELY disappointing. Maybe it was an isolated experience.

The Mexican place in Santa Fe Square (on 42nd Street) is pretty good. I can't remember the name...Javier's? I always like La Bodega, but have heard it's gone downhill.

Old Jock, are you talking about Jorge's?

It's still there, and is still good.

Alright, here is my review. While we were down there, we ate at the Barn Door, Luigis and Wall Street.

Barn Door - one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. It was wonderfull.

Luigis - great lasagna. just like I remember it.

Wall Street - disappointed. I got the pecan encrusted trout and I think that they bought it frozen and just warmed it up. Better than Long John Silvers, but not a whole lot better.
