So did Borden County. We need a battle of 6 man state champs in Big Spring.

Hey, Fuzzy! We DID have some snow in BS. We got there the 23rd (thankfully) and woke up to a beautiful snow Christmas Eve morning.

Color me confused. How do you have 2 Six Man champs? And Six Man hasn't been the same since Jack Pardee's school moved up to 11 man....

6-man divisions are based on school enrollments and the break is somewhere around 100 kids. Difference is that divisions and districts are organized at the UIL re-alignment and they play that way all year, and not based on play-off bids like they are for 1A and bigger Districts.

Shiek has a better answer than mine. The radio station that covers sports in Big Spring kept calling them big and little.

Better explanation of something that still doesn't make sense.

If you are small enough for 6 man, anything smaller ought to have to play 4 man???

Seriously, if enrollment moves you from 6-man to 1A to 2A, etc, somewhere, i.e. 6-man should be the smallest size enrollment group. Splitting that just seems like wanting to have more champions and runner's up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— Conference 2A football will be divided into two divisions prior to the start
of the season and the state championship football games in Conferences 1A - 4A will be
played at pre-determined sites after decisions handed down by the UIL Legislative Council
on Monday.

As a result of the referendum ballot, Conference 2A superintendents across the state voted
to divide football brackets into two divisions (Division I and Division II) prior to the start
of the season. Conference 2A superintendents voted 121-75 in favor of the rule change.
The results of the referendum ballot are binding, and will take effect in the 2010-11 school
year. Since 2006, Conference 1A 11-man and Conference 1A six-man football have been
split into two division.

I can only assume that the 1A superintendents chose to do this before the 2A did. I did see in the enrollment numbers that 99.9 was the split between 11 man and 6 man. Best I can tell, the Div 1 and Div 2 split the schools in an equitable fashion to allow more opportunities for advancement in the playoffs.

Proud Borden Country Coyote here.

It is not just small, but tiny.

Brenham played in the state 4A Div II (i believe) game. Don't know who played for the Div I game. I knew that 5A also had two divisions, just didn't realize that other divisions such as 1A also had the same.

Isn't there a division in 1A for 11 man and 6 man?

Either way 6 man is fun to watch, over 200 points were scored in the Garden City game.

And congratulations to Borden County also, even if they are the "little" school champ!

Six man follows the blinking light rule. If your town is big enough for a four-way stop with a blinking light, you're Division 1. If not, you're Division 2.

Garden City may have slipped through the cracks on this one, they only have a two way blinking light. They better hide the trophy in case the UIL finds out.

Rumor has it the two-way blinking light will be the divider next year, as enrollment at many of these schools continues to decline.
