...turned into as big a crap hole as mine?

It was never the promised land but it used to be a good place to raise kids. Since big oil moved out it has turned into a real hell hole.

Which little West Texas town are you from?

I was raised in Greenwood, which has stayed about the same size, due to being so close to Midland.

But the rest of my district that I played against in HS has all moved from 3A to 2A. Crane, Kermit, Reagan County (Big Lake), Colorado City, and Sonora. And it hasn't been that long really...I graduated in 1998. On top of that, the district they play in now is almost entirely teams that were 4A as recently as 1996. Monahans, Ft. Stockton, Pecos, Lamesa. I figure Andrews will fall soon too.

I lived in Andrews from 1985-1991. I thank God every day that I got out of there when I did.

At least Andrews has Buddy's.

I grew up around Lamesa, and it's really turned into a hole. Granted, it didn't have too far to fall though.

Played many a basketball game in Gail. I'm a Klondike Cougar from way back. All my grandparents, both parents, all my aunts and uncles and me graduated from there. What year did you graduate? You probably know some of my family.

That's too bad. In that case Andrews no longer has anything to make it better than Lamesa.

When I was in highschool there, I was interviewed by a reporter who wanted to know how I felt about having one of the nicest highschools in the state. It is strange how things change.

btw, Andrews is an awfully small town to have so many posters on here!

There are a lot of Andrews people on here.

What year did y'all graduate (from high school)?

I graduated in 1992.

I grew up in Seagraves (was 2A now 1A) now live in Greenwood. Good football all around up hear, but the small towns have turned into little dust bowls.

Permian Basin is right. I graduated from Kermit in 1999 and KHS has since gone from a decently sized 3A to a 2A along with all those other schools he listed. Greenwood Rangers, puhleeze! haha jk

Pennypacker - Did you play any sports at Kermit? We played you guys so much growing up that you kinda got to know guys on the other teams.

Also, what did Kermit people think of Greenwood? It always seemed like the rest of the district really hated us (not individually, just in general). But I always wondered if that's just the way everybody felt about everybody or if it was specifically directed at Greenwood. Anyway, Yellowjackets suck! JK! At least you're not a Crane.

I grew up in Big SPring, and it was 5A when I was there. Now it's a hell hole.

3rd Gen - my daddy used to teach at Gail (taught Ag sciences). Probably would have been there when you were there, if you took Ag.

I should have known from your extremely articulate and well written posts that you had West Texas roots! Spent my whole life, except for time in school, in west Texas.

Angelohorn- When did you go to BHS? Central still played them when I went there and it was really the old 4A(now5A). Didn't BHS downsize after Big Spring lost the Air Force base in the late 70's or early 80's?

That was always the last game of the season and usually cold as hell when it was played in Big Spring.

PS, thought it was kind of a hell hole even then

FishrCoAg I should have known from your articulate and well written post that you were from the land bounded by the Clear Fork and Rough Creek. Good country, good people. Old time saying "Rough creek. The farther up the creek you go the rougher they get, and I live at the head of the creek."
AngeloHorn

EMc77 - I remember playing Central. Big Spring went 4A while I was in HS, so we got to be the doormat for the Permians/Midland Lees/Centrals of teh world for awhile. THen we dropped to 4A and the competition was nowhere close, so we did well in our region. 'Course that only last a few years and it was back to suck.

I'm in Angelo now, and love it here. Been here since 2001 and don't plan on leaving.

Im originally from Big Lake, and I still like it fine. I currently live and work in Odessa, but am considering Andrews. I really like the town, but don't mind big oil companies having grown up in the oil business.

Oh yeah, I graduated in 99, and we hated everyone in district, not just Greenwood. Actually for us, I think Sonora was the really wanted to win year in, year out. Our big rival was Ozona though, I guess because it was so close (42 miles).

3rd Gen - I'm a Hightower, but they didn't actually come over to Klondike until the 70's when the old Flower Grove school consolidated. My mom's side has been at Klondike forever though - O'Briens and Fosters.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
3rd- not Sid Long. Jennings. He must have either been gone by that time, or he was teaching the 6th grade students (I think - it was before my time) Then he went into the DPS in 1970, because he could make something like $450 a month, which was a big pay raise. I have a brother that graduated from Forsan and a brother that graduated from Coahoma.

WestTexAG...Big Lake? My Dad is from there...I grew up in Alpine but live in Houston now.

I only make it back to Alpine every 7 - 10 years now...most likely to go to Big Bend National Park. I do miss the mountains but overall love the big city here ... and it's only 90 miles to A&M ! Whoop !
