Depends what you want...

I still say they have the best Mexican food in Texas, with a possible exception of El Paso, which I've never experienced.

Mexican food, in order...

Fuentes Downtown
Chilango's
Enrique's/Henry's
Diego's
Mejor que Nada
Pachisto's

Subcategory of cheap burrito shops...

Diego's
Cornerstop

Steak...

Zentner's
Zentner's Daughter
Twin Mountains
Western Skies

Honorable mention...Charcoal House (steak fingers)

Growing up in the SA, I've have a special affinity for the cuisine, I love turning people on to the restaurants there, it really does have a lot to offer.

Under Mexican food I meant Franco's, not Diego's, which is a cheap burrito joint as mentioned later on. Hope you enjoy.

I'd bump ZD's down on the steak food chain. Way to much seasoning.

Also, tt guy married to Betty

Original Zentners it the best by far.

I really liked Chilangos Chili Relano (sp) on the Thursday lunch special.

[damn I miss good Mexican food being here in Tennessee..... ]

Just to amend your list, I dont belive that mejor que nada belongs on the mexican food list and while lowake steak house isn't exactly in san angelo, it's close enough that it should be considered for steak houses.

Finally, my favorite restaurant ever is MATHIS FIELD CAFE. I love it! They have really yummy chinese food, and the best egg rolls ever, and everything is under $5. If you haven't had it, you should definitely try it out.

My family loves Mathis Field. I'm just not a huge fan. I guess for the $, it's as good as it gets.

Steak a la mexicana at Hidalgo's. Hole in the walls but great food. I think there is around four of them now.

Hong Kong Paul has a pretty good list, but Lowake needs to be at the top for steak houses. The Mexican food list is very in line with my opinion, only switched around a little bit.

Fernandez Mexican on Chadbourne belongs on the list. It's a hole-in-the-wall, but serve some good chow. It's my brother's and my parents' favorite.

Western Skies, Mejor Que Nada, and Zentner's Daughter--all those bring back great memories of FFA judging contests and the Area II FFA Convention in Angelo...

What about Lowake? That is my all-time favorite place to get a steak anywhere, especially after a day of fishing at OH Ivie!

The last I heard about Lowake is that is sold, again and isn't as good as it was. It has been almost a year since that report however.

Francos original location is good for Mexican. Of course, how many of you younguns know that was the original location of Henry's?

Guess I am showing my age.....

Speaking of Henry's I ate there Saturday night and man was it good! I'm so glad Henry got it back, it's actually good again.

Ate at Lowake again last night, and it was once again a great steak. Seasoned perfectly, and cooked to a true medium rare, with the best onion rings a man could eat. mmmm

WestTex, I've been to Lowake once, when I was in junior high, headed to a weekend outdoors excursion in Menard.

I still remember that steak, and now the fact that you brought it up, I'm going to be dreaming of a great West Texas steak, medium rare, with those aforementioned onion rings, all through Oceanography class today.

For curiosity's sake, since there are three of us with variations of West Texas Aggie in our handle, where are you from originally?

As Kid I remeber growing up in Winters and going to Lowake. Great food , the onion rings were to dye for. I wish we had a place here in Austin that served steak KC style.

Francos and Mejor are the best mexican food restaurants in town. Check out Carlos's in Miles too.... (I grew up there. Its really good for a small town restaurant.)
