Ok, i have a terlingua horror story.
The roommates and i went to big bend in early august and stayed at the basin, probably the nicest weather you could find in the state of texas for that time of year.
we decide to go through terlingua on our way to mexico on a quick day trip. we are running out of gas and decide to stop in terlingua for gas at one of the two gas stations there. we get into town and are basically on 'E' only to find out they have no power at either gas station. we are told by a local that this happens frequently and that the power should be back on quickly. we hang out, and the hours begin to pass.
after about 3 hours we head to the starlight and sit on the porch with a group of locals that can only be described as 'rough'. honestly, it was like i was in the beginning to a novel, and someone was about to die. these are the kind of people that have done something bad, like not paid taxes for the last 35 years, and needed a place to disappear: enter terlingua. we hang out at the starlight for about 4 hours and these guys are plastered drunk, most drive home as the only police officer we saw the whole time was at the bar with us that night.
eventually we decide there is no better place to wait other than the fina station, so we park at the gas pump and are forced to sleep in the car/on the car for the entire night until the station owner finally brings a generator and gets the pumps running again.
needless to say i dont have fun memories of terlingua.
