How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone want to give me the low-down on Midland? Things to do, cost of living, etc.? I'm looking at a job there and would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

HKP,
I have lived in Midland for 13 years now. I was married when I got here and already had a son.
My daughter was born 1 year after we moved here. We really like it in Midland. Climate is hot and dry but Lubbock is not a whole different. The people of Midland are probably the best I’ve met anywhere. I grew up in Katy, Texas – so I am by no means a West Texan by birth. The climate actually agrees with me better due to low humidity.

Cost of living is on the rise, but housing is most noticeable increase.
Gas is $2.75/gallon for example.

Housing is getting more expensive by the day almost. A co-worker of my wife sold his house the other day in 6 hours after listing. Apartments can be hard to find according to others moving out here – or maybe the nice ones anyway.

Lots of Tech fans out here so you should be comfortable and be able to find something to talk about with just about anyone. It used to be an Aggie Paradise in the early 90s when we moved here. Now (of course) there are plenty of T-shirt t-sips but the whole state has gone that way. I’m sure you are aware of the Midland/Odessa rivalry, which extends from Football to Life. (i.e The Walmarts in each city are mirror images of each other, not identical)

The saying out here goes ( I live in Midland and work in Odessa):
“You raise your kids in Midland and raise Hell in Odessa”

Since I showed up here married I can’t really say much about nightlife.
Odessa has a Graham Central Station that we go to.
Midland has The Ranch for C/W dancing.
Odessa has a Hooters just in time for the Oil Show – I have never seen the parking lot empty between 10am and 10pm.

They have most chain restaurants you have heard of except Applebees and TGIFridays.

Traffic compared to anywhere is basically non-existent.
It has gotten busier, but a joke compared to Dallas and Houston.
More people associate with Dallas teams here than Houston.
I live 20 miles from work and it takes 25 minutes to get there.

Have any other question feel free to ask about any specifics.
