That's how I come going to Midland. Seems the best for me. You stay on the interstate the longest that way.

Just go west, through the 7th layer of hell, into the pit of despair, and you will see the Lamesa city limit sign.

There is about a 15 mile difference (shorter) if you turn at Junction and go through San Angelo. You have to drive civil on that route. You can run 80 to 85 from Kerville to Ozona. It is 110 miles from Ozona to Big Spring, which is two-lane oilfield and farm road. There is one Hi-po that works Big Lake, but that is it. We go that way to San Antonio from Big Spring and can make it in around 4 hours. I would assume you are calling Big Spring, the 7th layer of hell, which is correct. We feed christians to the lions on Saturday night, right after the dog and cock fights.

I think the real question here is why anyone would ever voluntarily go to Lamesa.

Trust me, not volunteering. family wedding. I think the only good thing about Lamesa is the drive in theater.

Mind if I ask who's wedding? I'm from there so I probably know them.

And Lamesa does have one good thing other than the Sky Vue and their Chihuahuas - Spurlock's Cheeseburgers.

I'd rather not. Sorry. Its small enough to figure out who it is.

Get on Hwy. 6 @ Navasota.
Stop & see the sights in College Station.
Stay on 6 until you reach I-20. (Stop at Dublin for Dr. Pepper)
West on I-20
Go north @ Roscoe on Hwy 84
Go West @ Snyder on 180.

522 miles around 8.5 hours

Shortest route is to go through Austin to Lampasas to Brady to San Angelo to BS to Lamesa (502 miles), but I try to avoid Austin.

I've never done the trip through San Antonio. My map says 522 miles if you go north at Junction. Plus you can stop in Luling for BBQ.

Fastest way, fly to Midland, get rent car and drive to Lamesa. Reverse sequence to get back home!!

I'd go with the Ag2Max idea. With gas @ $3.00, Southwest Airlines is pretty cheap.

Southwest is NOT cheap. sorry try again. its over 200 to use the airplane. Just got back this afternoon and only cost 55 in petro. We went 87 the entire route, ate at Cooper's bbq, then to Burnet, then to taylor, south on 90 something, then 290 the rest. Made it in 8.25 hours not including lunch.

Thanks bharris, but that way is too long for me. if you get behind one slow poke on that route, you are screwed. and not to mention I20 is under construction and is a nightmare right now. But thanks anways.

Whoop for Cooper's! That's the way we go from College Station to Midland, the Sterling City to Taylor part anyway.

Thanks and gig'em!

We drive Katy to Midland a few times a year.

Go west on I-10 to Loop 1604 around the north side of San Antonio, you will get off near Fiesta Texas. From Junction to Ozona the speed limit is posted 80mph (about 2 hours of driving there).

Keep driving to Ozona and exit, turn north on 163, take 137 a few miles north of Ozona. Only gas on the way to Stanton is Big Lake.

137 will take you all the way to Lamesa if you wish.
