Just wanted to ask everyone here to keep these men's families in their thoughts and prayers...
On Saturday, September 8, 2007, Odessa PD Officers Arlie Jones, John (Scott) Gardner, and Abel Marquez responded to a domestic disturbance call in west Odessa, from a woman saying that her husband was physically abusing her. When the officers arrived at the scene, the woman was outside and gave the officers permission to enter the house. The front door was locked, and the officers tried to enter through the backyard.
When they approached the house, the suspect, Larry White, shot at the officers through the house with a shotgun. Cpl. Arlie Jones and Cpl. Scott Gardner were killed on the scene, and Cpl. Abel Marquez was transported to Lubbock with gunshot wounds to his face, neck and arms. After a 4 hour stand-off, the suspect White was apprehended. Cpl. Marquez succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday, September 12.
Larry White was initially charged with 2 counts of capital murder and 3 counts of attempted capital murder. Upon Cpl. Marquez's death, the Odessa DA has declared intent to charge White with 3 charges of capital murder.
Again, please keep the families of these brave men, as well as the people of Odessa and West Texas, in your prayers.
