We're planning on leaving Plano around 1:00 on Wednesday to head down to Bishop for Thanksgiving.

Our original plan was to stay on 35 all the way to San Antonio and then go 410-37-77. My Dad suggested that we just get on 77 in Waco and take that the whole way. He seems to think that the drive will be faster that way because of traffic. I'm not so sure though, not knowing the condition of 77, speed limits, traffic, number of stoplights, etc.

Can anyone offer any advice about which route to take? I know it's going to be a long drive no matter what, but I'd rather us not spend an unnecessary amount of time in traffic if it can be avoided.....

Thanks in advance!

I guess my question is, why would you want to go to Bishop?? (J/K I grew up there)

Hahaha.... I have family there and haven't seen them in forever! I'm very much looking forward to it, though the drive is definitely going to suck.

I would drive to Houston and take 59 to Victoria and get 77 from there before I would take 35 to San Antonio. It would probably be faster too.

I'd stick to I-35 personally. I used to be a fan of 77 but I realized that if you're unlucky and get caught behind a truck or a slow driver you are done.
On 35 you run the risk of some traffic but it will eventually open up especially once you jump on I-37 South of San Antonio.
Plus the chances of getting in trouble with the Law are less on 35 as compared to 77 and all those small towns.

Hmmm.....I hadn't thought of the Houston to Victoria route. I just can't make up my mind! I'm wishing I'd just booked a flight into Corpus!
