I am coming to McAllen for work at the end of the month (covering a medical practice for a doc). I am worried as the people bringing me down there to work are trying to put me up at the Knights Inn. (In my experience, these are not the nicest places to stay). I think they are being cheap.

What I need is a safe hotel that is not a crap hole that offers internet and breakfast (I don't need the Ritz, but at the same time don't want a Motel 6). Yes, I know about Tripadvisor and such; but the reviews are not that helpful for this particular property. You usually get what you pay for - and this is the cheapest hotel listed on Hotels.com.

Any suggestions from the McAllen area folks on this board would be appreciated. Also feel free to chime in on the restaurants that I must eat at while in town. Thanks in advance.

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

I always recommend Drury Inn hotels. When I travel for work I typcially stay there. They have internet and a hot breakfast that is free. Plus they give you a complimentary happy hour card that is good for three drinks each day along with a snack buffet as well.

There is one right on US 83 in McAllen east of 10th St. Close to a variety of places to eat.

every time i visit for business i stay the Homewood Suites on 83. It is on the south part of town. nice rooms and a nice hot breakfast every AM. it is a hilton brand hotel, so they do it right.

also, embassy suites would work too.

Thanks for the feedback.

Despite my objections, this medical practice is bent on putting me in this Knights Inn. They are being cheap, and I don't appreciate it; but it's a paycheck so I guess I can't be that picky. Anyway, I did insist that if I get to the hotel and it's an absolute hole; that they must get me somewhere else...so I may use all your ideas.

Oh if it's over in Pharr by Sioux Rd then it's probably ok.

Don't keep anything valuable in the car though.

Speaking of that we just had someone try to break into one of our employee's trucks.

Never a dull moment in San Juan.

I believe it is the same hotel as the Country Hearth Inn and Suites on 281, accross from the Silver Spur Truck Stop.

Dude, try the Texan Guest Ranch out on ware Rd. Wonderful people, nice place to stay. Out of the way, and I would bet it would be close to the Knights Inn in terms of price and it is much homier than most places. Plus, I know the owners, they are good people. This time of year they are empty.

I wish I really could make the choice. I'm at the mercy of the practice that I working at. If this Knights Inn is a total hole, I should be able to get it changed...but otherwise, I'm screwed. Thanks for the feedback.

What are the must eat places in town?
