Wow! The news this evening sounds like the entire Mexico border from Nuevo Lardeo to Matamoris is going up in flames. They said that the Federales are going after the Zetas. It is too bad that the Mexican Government has let this get so far out of hand.

There are way too many of them, they will never be able to kill each other entirely, so we end up getting caught in the middle.

I really feel sorry for the folks over in Mexico. I exchanged e-mails with a friend of mine in Reynosa this morning and here is what he had to say:

He is a Mexican citizen. He and I are ham radio operators and got to know each other through our hobby. I have lived in the valley for a longer time than most of you have been alive and this mess has me worried. For every "drug dealing no good" that we hear about in Mexico there are 1000's of really nice folks.

I used to go to Sugar Lake back in the 90's frequently and felt fairly safe even though I speak almost no Spanish. I fault the Mexican Governmenr for allowing things to get so out of hand, particularly here along the border.
