I have been amazed at the growth of high schools in Hidalgo County. I live south of Edinburg and I was thinking that we have a lot of high schools. In a distance not far from my house we have 3 high schools in Edinburg, 3 high schools in McAllen, 3 high schools in PSJA, 1 high school in Sharyland, 2 high schools in Mission with more being built! (I think all or most of these schools are 5A)

If I am not mistaken there are only 4 high schools in Corpus Christi and less than 10 in Austin. It is really amazing at the speed that we are growing.

I believe that there are 6 high schools in Corpus Christi, not counting those that are in seperate school districts. Same as there will be in Brownsville pretty soon.

WW1_flying_ace,

Not trying to start an argument, but the CC School District site says there are actually only five high schools: Ray, Carrol, King, and Moody and another magnet school called the Collegiate High School.

If you wanted to count those magnet schools, there are several more in our area that I didn't count, like the IB Campus in McAllen, etc.

I wasn't trying to count all the schools in Austin and surrounding areas. I noticed that San Antonio ISD there are only 9 5A high schools...of course there are a number of other district in the city incluing Northside, NorthEast, East Central, SouthWest, etc. If you count all the surrounding areas in Hidalgo County there are many more like 3 in La Joya, 1 in Hidalgo, 1 Valley View, 2 in Weslaco...etc.

I was just trying to point out that there are some large cities in Texas that have fewer High Schools than this small area of Hidalgo County.

And ValleyRat, your omitting La Joya having two big ones, and RGC having two, who woulda thunk that.

OVR, I believe Miller is the other high school in Corpus Christi, unless of course, it's one of those 9th grade campuses.

It is pretty interesting how there are so many schools being built in the valley, and the population just keeps on increasing more and more.

You are exactly right, I misread their website. Miller is a fifth high school. I don't know what kind of school that Collegiate High School is but I suspect it is something like the IB school in McAllen or the Science Academy in Mercedes.

Regarding RGC and La Joya...they are a pretty good distance from my house and that is why I didn't include them. It takes almost an hour for me to drive up there.

I think that to put it in perspective, there are 3 5A UIL districts in the valley whcih makes thais a really dense area for schools.

really dense area for schools

it's a perfect match for the dense kids that attend them.
