I don't eat BBQ very much lately (I love it but it doesn't always love my stomach). I have eaten at a number of the really good BBQ places up in central Texas from time to time (like Cooper's in Llano) but I was wondering if we have anything to compete with those really good places. (I really like fajitas but I don't consider them BBQ).

Have any of you found a particularly good place?

Lone Star is good and I've been surprised with the quality at Bad Bob's, I usually don't like chains

Valley Rat:
There is a mini market, meat market on the east side of the corner of expressway and Nolana(Pharr side). It also has like an RV shop or something there and is a gas station. The BBQ there is very good and reasonably priced. Sometimes it is a bit goofy as they are not a full blown resturant, but I have had excellent BBQ there before, but get there early.

LoneStar is good. Red Barn is a McAllen Staple. I also like FatDaddy's in Weslcaco.

Give Bad Bob's a try! It's really good and Aggie Owned!

Note: Don't waste your time going to the "Irish Pub" next door. Only thing Irish about that place is the name.

I tried BadBoy's BBQ for lunch today. The ownere is indeed an aggie. His card says Felo Guerra but I could have sworn he introduced himself as David. Their specialty is "pulled pork" which I didn't order and I should have. I had the special of the day that was a brisket sandwich that was big!

I had not met the owner before but he said he was class of 02 and they have a website at:
http://www.badbobs21.com/

You might want to support a fellow ag and try it.

Felo Guerra huh?

If it's who I'm thinking of he was a Cav Jock and is related to the folks that own La Muneca Cattle Co. out in Linn/San Manuel. The La Muneca folks are BIG TIME Ags, though I'm having a hard time picturing them in the restaurant business.

Are they the same family that used to run the original Double Daves over by Lack's that closed down a while back?

I wouldn't know. But I'm going to try and swing by if I make it down to the Valley later this week.
