McAllen Voters: Nature Center or Sports Complex?

Nature park or sports center?

McAllen voters go to the polls in May to decide a $35 million dollar bond to build a tennis center and baseball/softball complex.

Leaders want the tennis and baseball centers to be on land belonging to the city’s nature center and botanical garden.

Opponents want to keep the land as it is. They want the land to be preserved for its beauty and wildlife.

Those in favor of the development say the project will keep the natural beauty and still be able to add the development.

They want to the sports complex to be a destination for the region.

This is interesting. I have read about the idea of selling the park over on the west side and the pros and cons. I was not aware that of location the new complex. It would be nice for more complete information to be made available in the paper...hopefully before the vote!

I guess I shouldn't worry about it since I moved out of McAllen 9 years ago and live out in the country. I guess I will always think of myself as a McAllenite.

Is the "city’s nature center and botanical garden" the location on old 83 that had to be shut down for a while because of all the illicit sexual activity?

Either way, the patrons who would visit are gonna be drinking and peeing on everything in site.

yeah man, if you are in mcallen check out the nature park and the proposed placement. i am assuming you are from mcallen because you posted on this forum about the park. my wife is from mcallen and she said the idea is terrible.

I am an aggie that lives in the valley and occasionally lurks on this board.Your facts are wrong. The city is proposing to purchase the 70 acres needed for this facility. they are going to sell the old city park off of south Ware to help pay for the new facility. I do not think the nature park on old 83 will be included in that sale. Im my opinion this would be a great thing for McAllen.
