A 52-year-old man is behind bars after authorities allegedly found close to four pounds of heroin hidden inside his bicycle basket.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Jose Zenaid Montoya-Velasquez under federal drug charges Saturday.
The 52-year-old man rode up from Mexico on a bicycle at Brownsville's Gateway International Bridge.
Customs officers inspected his bicycle's basket and allegedly found six bundles with 3.83 pounds of heroin hidden under a wooden shelf.
Montoya-Velasquez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday morning.
Investigators said Montoya-Veleasquez is a United States citizen.
