a great way to avoid the subject about why Texas will not adopt a measure similar to 1070. luckily every one in the valley does not want it, hence why they do not want to talk about it. lucky for perry, this time.
quote:
Texas Governor Rick Perry may have visited the Rio Grande Valley in hopes of promoting Operation Lonestar but conversation quickly turned to immigration.
“If you have a revolving door at your border then immigration reform is a waste of time," said Perry.
Arizona's Senate Bill 1070 has received international attention that hasn’t gone unnoticed especially here in the valley, with a population mainly Hispanic.
The bill focuses on arresting those who are in the country illegally and this Friday afternoon the governor couldn't escape the topic.
“I don’t usually tell people I’m going to support a piece of legislation,” said the governor. “Not until it gets to my desk."
Perry told Action 4, pieces of legislation tend to change from the time they're introduced so he didn’t really want to comment and tried dodging the all important immigration question.
“I’m not going to spend my time discussing issues that frankly are not capable of helping our country or Mexico’s."
But the governor did state that the issue of immigration can’t be discussed without talking about the root of the problem.
“Until we have the border security…legislation on it… immigration reform is premature you cannot have immigration reform until you have border security it’s impossible,” said Perry.
The Texas Governor assured us it’s a little early to add Texas to the immigration reform talk.
Perry also said he wants to meet with President Barak Obama about border violence during his visit on August 9th
