Thanks, Flash. One more question--which of those are seafood places?

Dirty Al's
Daddy's
Wanna Wanna
Capn Roys

Dirt Al's and Daddy's are the same owner. Daddy's is more cajun. Dirty Al's is mostly all seafood.

My favorite spot on the island is Wanna Wanna. It is a beach bar with beach food. Fried shrimp, Fish, Ceviche, boiled shrimp and oysters. Not fancy at all, but great people watching and mostly locals. Live band some nights and the music is always Buffet style.

Their motto "No Shoes No Shirt SERVICE!!!"

Capn Roys has all around good food, from CFS to Tacos. Salsa and Guac are good homemade.

Isabels and Manuels are excelant mexican breakfast food. Lunch is really good too.

These places are mainly where the locals hang.

Let me know.

This summer the fish tacos at Louies were really good. I ate them up in the sports bar.

Will do. Good info. We're headed down Thursday, back on Monday. Look forward to trying some of your recommendations. From your description, exactly the sort of places we were looking for.

Try the Gulf Seafood kitchen on Maxan street in Port Isabel, very, very good and never gets much pub. Plus the owner sent his kids to A&M.

You can never go wrong with the local Ribeye sandwich at Blackbeards or the locals Club. Neither are on the menu, but if you ask for them they will serve them.

We ate at Gulf Seafood Kitchen on the way in Thursday night. Very good, people there were very nice. My wife isn't a crab cakes fan, but the guy talked her into them, and she loved them. I'm shellfish-allergic, so grilled fish was my choice, and it was great. Ate at Cap'n Roys the next night; she had grilled shrimp, I had grilled fish again--both very good. Saturday night was Wanna Wanna's (we went there a couple of other nights for drinks). Again, very good, great place to sit and watch the waves roll in. I went with the burger and it was pretty tasty (and huge). Last night was Dirty Al's. Vickie went with the fried shrimp--probably the best she had for the weekend. Finished up with breakfast at Isabel's on our way out this morning. Great breakfast, big portions, ridiculously cheap. If she ever moves it up here, I'll double my weight in about six months. Thanks again for all the input.

Wish I was there. Isabel's tortilla's with butter can be addicting and cause major weight gain.

Second that. They're large, too.

Kitchen cops in Port Isabel dropped the hammer on a dirty diner busted with roaches, ants and other health code violations.

Costa Del Mar on 201 N. Musina Street was shut down for 6 days following an initial inspection report that netted 37 demerits.

The eatery failed a second re-inspection.

In addition to insect contamination, the Food Patrol exposed how the restaurant was caught with a cross-contamination of chicken and fish, a freezer not working properly and missing thermometers to check for proper food temperatures.

The owner’s sister, who was working when the Food Patrol arrived, admitted the high number of demerits was “embarrassing.”

Inspectors allowed Costa Del Mar to reopen after a third inspection cleared the business of all violations.

That was six days later.
