....for anything, especially marriages.

Everyone looks at everyone else like a piece of meat. Everyone has a sancho or sancha. Everyone is either in bad economic (and physical) shape or 'se mueven', or pretend to be. You can see the mexicanization of the border with every passing year. Almost like fire ants...the stores get worn down quick. Boxes in the parking lots. Beer barns popping up everywhere....in spanish. I saw this happen in Laredo over the last 15 years and I'll say...its not pretty.

LOL, classic.

Agree. Saw it begin a while ago, no end in sight save for them knocking down a whatever to put up a taco stand.

Being from the Valley and going back once in a while, I notice it alot. Most people north of San Antonio do not even think the Valley is significant. Sad because I see the Valley as a sleeping giant that refuses to wake up.

the problem with the valley is that it's one big refuge of ignorance. most never leave even for vacation and if they do take a vacation it's inevitably to san antonio. my most worldly students are my migrant kids.

I read about a 4th or 5th grade class from Mission taking a trip to the beach and it was the first time for most of them to see the ocean. Stuff like that blows my mind.

I was in Disney World with my family and I noticed two hispanic teens at the playground. One of them had a PSJA Bears shirt on. Being from Pharr originally, I went up to him and asked him if he was from Pharr. His reply to me was "Why do you ask, is it because I am Mexican?" His friend looked at him and said "No, dumbass, it is because of your shirt!" His friend took the words out of my mouth.

I then told them I grew up in Pharr. I think that suprised him. It was their first trip outside of the Valley. I think his response was due to him being in a very majority white atmosphere for the very first time.

the valley used to be a great place to raise a family, now everytime I go down there to visit it reminds me why I choose to live in College Station. I still like to visit but after about 3 days I am ready to head north again. It is an extension of Mexico, just drive down 1015 or Monte Christo and you will see what I mean.

Ah, the stories I could tell.

Buddies BIL, had never been north of Fal, west of La Joya, east of the Jetties or South of Reynosa/Matamoros in his 27 years. Think about that???? Especially nowadays or in the last 15 or so years.

They took him to San Antonio and he about came un glued, never thougth a city was like that and this was years ago before the Valley got a little, emphasis on a little, more modern.

The valley used to be pretty damn cool, lot of fun, neat people, neat things to do and see. It is not quite like that anymore and it is about 30% one big colonia right now. Give it another 5-10 years and the valley is going to be rough as a cobb. Way too many Mex's making it across the border illegally that don't want to risk further hassle and that are happy to live in a trailer north of Alton and watch Telemundo while eating foodstamp beenie-weenies with tortillas. That is the future, 4:1 against decent educated folks.

Even the hard working illegals get the hell out of here to greener pastures.
