-las vegas cafe in harlingen. order something with cheese enchiladas.
-lil rita's grill house. thai food. nothing actually grilled except for the one american thing on the menu, hamburgers.
-the pizzeria in harlingen. order fresh, not by the slice.
-a piece of cake by ybarra's in harlingen. get the cake with the pink frosting. <-anyone know what that stuff is called?
-milano's italian restaurant in weslaco. some people rave about it, i think it's just a better option than olive garden.
-taqueria el cien in los fresnos. bistek tacos with everything.
-manuel's in port isabel. breakfast tacos.
-psycha deli in spi. i normally distrust hippies, but they do make a good sandwich.
-padre island brewing company. beer and pizza.

The Vermillion in Brownsville. All those others mentioned might be pretty good and all, but there is a reason that The Vermillion is closing in on 100 years of being open, trust me on this.

One of the few places in Texas where you can get off the hook TexMex and your chicken fried steak with brown gravy and fresh mashed pot. and fresh green beans all under one roof.

I know it's not in the area you posted but I love eating at Koko's at Uptown in McAllen.

Vermillion is great and surprising to me how many natives have never even heard of it. Good fried pickles too.

Milano's & even Arturo's in Weslaco are hard to beat.

It also always amazes me how many folks in the Valley never have eaten at the Vermillion. Back in the day their fresh trout ceviche was soooo good. Their tostadas/chalupas are the best I have ever had anywhere, bar none.

Best burger is either Chilli Willie's in Arroyo City or Salinas' in Donna.

The White House in Raymondville is old-school home cooking.

Blue Onion in Weslaco does some good original food. I like Milano's, also in Weslaco.

Las Vegas is good for Tex-Mex in Harlingen. The Tex-Mex Grill in Harlingen is also good, lunch only, I think.

Guerra's in downtown McAllen is a nice white-tablecloth restaurant with good food.

You need to refine your search options, though, because I could name 25 taquerias, several Chinese places as well as others to this post.

Colletti's in Harglinen recently opened and it has some amazing Italian food. Harlingen needed a nice upscale type place.

Roca Sushi in Pharr. It's a dive but the rolls are awesome.
Taco Palenque - a no-brainer.
the Blue Shell makes the best Siete Mares soup.
I'm sure i'll think of more later.
