I'm not into fine dining, just good and casual.

Also, suggestions for casual places to hang out and have a drink?

Thanks in advance.

pay no attention to RGV-Ag, he's a big goat and menudo connoisseur

On the bay : Palm St Pier
On the beach : Palm Restaurant (S) or Wahoo's (N)
in Port Isabel on the bay : Pelicans on Garcia St.

Mid-Island: Upstairs at Padre Island Brewery

and don't forget tripas and mollejas.....

Ditto on Pelican's, Wahoo's is gone sadly. I haven't ever tried the Palm St. places. The guy that owns the real estate there, I think he used to own the rest. also but it sucked donkey balls when he had it, and I had a two year lawsuit fiasco and I detest his crooked ass. Thus, anything associated with him I avoid.

Good cheap eats in PI, try Manuel's and Joe's Oyster Bar, both on Maxann street.

Wahoo Saloon is renamed Laguna BOB's, and the ceviche I had there on Saturday was the same as it ever was.

The food at the Palm is good but the service sucks. Blackbeard's is an institution and is consistent. Jesse's Cantina has good Tex-Mex. Dirty Al's and Gulf Coast Seafood Co are owned by the same people and do a pretty good job with seafood. I like the beer at the SPI Brewing Company and the founder is a friend of mine but, like a lot of restaurants on the island, service can be hit or miss. The fried artichoke hearts are the bomb, though. No first-hand experience, but several friends have eaten at Kranzler's and give it good reviews. There is a good bagel shop across the street from Denny's? in a strip office center that has good, NY-style bagels.

In Port Isabel, Marchan's at the White Sands has the best whole fried snapper or whole fried flounder, hands down. Manuel's has good breakfast but if you want the tacos, just phone in an order for carry-out because the wait can be long and the service is spotty, at best.

Thanks for the replies. I had a great time in SPI. Was only there for 2 nights. The whole fried flounder at Marchan's White Sands did not disappoint! Wish I could go back...
