VALLEY MORNING STAR
BROWNSVILLE — Police responded to a 911 call Sunday evening and discovered a young man holding his mother against a wall and choking her, a police report said.

The woman, 35, told police she had argued with her 19-year-old son at her residence on Res Drive because he wanted her to give him the child support payment she receives on his behalf, the report said.

The son threatened to sell her pit bull if she didn’t hand over the check, according to the report.

The woman told police that when she tried to protect the dog, her son began strangling her, the report said.

She decided not to press charges, according to the report.

Wow, there is so much fail and stupidity here that it is incredible. Just when I think I could not be further surprised at something out of the Valley, I get to read something like this. You can't make this stuff up.

My how the Valley has changed. I think most would agree that it used to be a great place.

Charpie:

That was part of the gold in that news blurb. Also the emphasis on child support payments, and a pit bull. How much more pathetic could one story be.

I mean who is the valley decides to print this stuff. They must hate the valley as my goodness it is embarrasing.

Gotta agree it was golden... my golfing Valley Ratpack got a real 'homey' look over the story.

PHARR - A woman says the Catholic symbols of Jesus and his mother Mary appeared in a screen door at her home in Pharr.

Overcome with emotion, Lupita la Bourdette is now a believer.

“This is something that people have to see to believe,” says la Bourdette. “When I saw it, I wanted to cry. It impressed me so much

Well now, I knew one of these could not be far behind. Gotta love a little Je-sus in a car, door, tortilla, mud puddle, pulga sign, bean sack or whatever the image dujour is.

But wait, it gets better:

EDINBURG - An Austin business in Edinburg said they're pulling out of the Rio Grande Valley. They blame a lazy, incapable workforce.

PTV NuStats does market research for cities' transportation routes. The director of the survey operation told Edinburg city leaders and the state they can't keep qualified employees. They said they had high turnover, employees lacked work ethic and there wasn't enough skilled labor for the job

You don't say? Really?
I found this funny, when there was some release by, I think, the Brownsville economic people saying that the young work force that the city could provide was recieving praise from the likes of Wal-Mart. Surely you jest to put that out there as a positive.

Man, I really don't dislike the Valley as there are some positives, but goodness gracious the valley is its own worst enemy. Been back right at a year, and every year it gets a little less palatable to me.

The people in the valley tollerate this kind of behavior, so they are the ones to blame. Whever I go back to visit my family, I just don't know how they can do it.

It really is sad, but I'm a firm believer that you can't help them if they don't want to help themselves.

I think must of us would agree that the valley used to be a great place. I think that ever since we've become more driven by Mexican National's money, we have become a slave to them and lost our own identity.

Have some respect for yourselves and others.

I still live in McAllen and my wife and I are really trying to get out.

Charpie, what you said about KRGV is exactly right. Some of their stories are really pathetic and it drives me crazy. Case in point and the thing that I hate the most - It rains hard for 30 minutes and like clockwork, KRGV is out in the nearest colonia that was built in a dry lakebed and has no drainage. KRGV then puts on a sob show where the people hand their hands out wanting a handout because they built their house in a floodplain and their house in underwater.

Only in the valley.

That's what happens when the region takes the easy money of Service Sector jobs. No manufacturing, no research, very little professionals, and extremely low rates of education.

I consider myself very educated - have a MS in Engineering. You are EXACTLY right about the lack of any type of industry down here. It seems like every job down here is somehow either retail or healthcare related down here. Go to indeed.com and do a search and 90% of all jobs that pop up are either Nursing/Doctors/Physical Therapy or Retail/Banking. Literally NO technical/engineering/industrial jobs to speak of. It really is very frustrating in that the valley has quite a bit of potential but the only thing holding it back is diabetes and laziness.
