is there a place in the valley to take a look at bbq pits? i'm looking for the heavy steel kind. the ones i've seen on craigslist are either flimsy , overpriced crap, or something built for catering.

I got one for my birthday from ProPits, locally made, heavy gauge steel, will be the last pit I own. Not cheap but it is a GREAT pit. I'll pull the # off brand when I get home. What is your budget?

956-330-6888, I think they are in the Pharr/Edinburg area.

There is a place on the east side of 281 heading up toward San Manuel. Looks like quality stuff.

I purchased a pit from there about 6 years ago...and still going strong. There work verys from great to not so much...but they are reasonably priced. Look for the pit (with quality work) that you want and barder for your price. I would buy there again!!!

If you can wait another month you can purchase a good quality made pit at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes,TX. There is an auction on the last Sunday of the show on all the bbq pits the kids make for the show. The minimum is ususally around $300-350. Most of the pits are good quality and its for a good cause.

The one out in San Manuel is Skaggs. They do have a good selection of pits. I stop by there every so often to buy corn for my feeder and they always seem to be working on a new pit in the back. I believe they have a laser cutter.

Smokin on the Rio starts today at the Livestock Show grounds. Open to the public, going out tomorrow with the family. Over 100 BBQ teams, may be a good place to recon pits and look for ideas.
