I have pictures but I am to old to figure out how to post them. However the real thing is all around you if you live in the valley.

Mesquite trees are great trees for the valley because the shade doesn't kill the grass like Oak trees do. ...and they are very tolerant of the valley weather.

I am just busting mesquite tree balls (or beans) around here.

However, I just did take Native Plants of Texas and was told by a prof that mesquite trees are really big shrubs.


They would naturally burn down in periodic grass fires of Texas but since that is so controlled now, they have grown into immense sizes.

And apparently they do not have "trunks" what ever that definition is (which I have). Just really big branches stemming out.
