No insurance-driving lady crashed into me last week. Any reccomendations on lawyers in the McAllen area.I probably won't see a dime, but I at least want a judgment in my favor. It really pisses me off. I bust my butt and do everything I can to maintain my vehicle and my financial responsibilities, and then some sleepy headed summabesh wrecks into me, and oops! Sorry, no insurance, fix it yourself. Then all they get is a measly $250 ticket they'll probably never pay. If my insurance went a day past expiration, I'm sure I'd get pulled over that day.....yeesh.

*Fact* statewide 13% of all drivers are driving without the minimum insurance coverage

Serious answer:

You should have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. If you do you can claim it under that coverage. Typically it will be $250 deductible and your car will be repaired. Once you do this your insurance company will go after the other person with a vengeance.

FTR, if you don't have that coverage because you wanted to save money then suck it up. That savings should be in the bank ready for you to draw from in situations like this. If you don't have the coverage or the money then you have bigger problems. Godspeed.

It's not about the money, Smokeyshortcake... You see, it's the principal. There's principalities in the whole thing.

I googled the small claims process. I'm filing on my own.

This is precisely why our court system is clogged......proceed as you wish.

Sue away and be happy.

One of the perks of living in the RGV.

We get to pay more on premiums because most drivers do not have insurance.

AND you were a college student under 21.

THIS is also a factor.

Pint, your agent is an idiot. Rates in the rgv have always been pricier due to the border being so close. Rates on CS are cheaper because of less issues and responsible drivers which by default means less loss because of frivolous lawsuits over minor fender benders.

If you are pursuing a small-claims verdict, might as well do it yourself. There isn't enough at stake to lawyer-up and pay the fees associated with having one of them over-charge you for something you can do yourself.

When folks come to me for small claims stuff I usually just point them to Google. No need to take their money for stuff they can do on their own.
