Reading OVR's report about getting a speeding ticket in that speed trap rat infested city of Los Fresnos

The new bypass going in at Brownsville connecting 48 to 77 is almost finished. We have been traveling that way for years now even though the work has been going on.

From 77 around Olmito, take the Port of Brownsville exit and then turn left and go all the way to 48. Left on 48 at the Shrimp Basin and it comes out at the light at the HEB in PI.

70 mph the whole way except for about 2 or 3 miles of 60. Three total stop lights from Expy 77 to HEB in PI. No towns and no traffic.

Right now, even under construction, it's within a minute or two of going through L.F. In a few more weeks it will be 10-12 minutes faster and it always has 1/20th of the traffic.

Yep. I use that route every now and then.

I called the Judge in Los Fresnos this afternoon to settle up for my speeding ticket and they told me that the ticket would be $148 plus a little for "handling". I was going 72 in a 55. I guess that this little town has enough speeding tickets that they have a web site to go to to pay your ticket with your credit card!

Not too sweet...it cost me $150. I was driving back from the island and I just didn't slow down quickly enough coming into town. Speed limit drops pretty quickly! No excuses though, the speed limit is posted and I know that Los Fresnos is a speed trap so it's all on me.

Well just by your name I figured you always drove 55 mph! Just kidding.

Always amazed by the people that continue to drive almost 70 up towards the light coming from SPI. It is like they have no idea about the town's speed trap reputation.

I will have to admit that I don't drive like I used to. Back in the day I used to be able to take my girl friend (now my wife of 45 years) from Edinburg to SW Texas and then drive on over to College Station in 6 1/2 hours in my old 1956 Ford Mainline with a 100 HP straight 6 engine! :-)

Back then the big speed trap was Selma, just North of San Antonio.

I got lucky the other day in Encinal, got a warning going 82 in a 55. I have the scribbled on ticket to prove it, I carry it like a badge of honor. Cop walked up to the window and asked if I knew why he was stopping me, I said "Hell yeah, I was going way too fast". He busted out laughing. Went back and ran my license and when he came back I got to BS'ing with him and he said, "Hell, I am the chief of Police and you slow down, this is a warning". I could not believe it.

He did say that he writes some hellacious tickets through there on the oil field trucks. He said he gives them a warning and tells them about the CDL damage, but the second time they are done. That day he had written like 10 tickets and it was about 2:00 in the PM. LF needs to hire him as a consultant.

I once had LF loose a ticket of mine back in the day. I didn't inquire too much at Judge Romero's office, but that was not uncommon back in the 80's and the 90's there.

This got me thinking, game watch at SPI next year? Could be the fall version of Aggie Beach day?

Guilty as charged! I have even gotten a ticket in Los Fresnos before back in 1978, so I was forewarned. Just wasn't paying attention. Slow learner I guess.
