I have driven upcountry a couple of times in the last six months and both times I have been surprised at the roadwork in Fal. It seems like they have been working on those overpasses forever. I guess that I have been spoiled by the improvement around Alice and the increase of the speed limit on 281 but ...are they ever going to get through in Fal. Both times on the way back, the road is so torn up that they have rerouted the traffic back through town.

Since I always try to see the bright side of things, I guess it is nice to see the lovely scenery intown? :-)

I agree. When my Dad got sick, I had to make the drive from Austin to McAllen. Traffic was great that night, until I hit Fal. As I drove through, I thought that this would be the longest road project ever. I hate Fal

I think that contract was with Ballenger Construction. They have been spending most of their time in bankruptcy court lately. That might have an impact on the Fal project.

Yes it's been on hold for a year or whatever as the bonding company got a replacement for Ballenger. Somebody new is on the job now so things should be getting back on track soon.

It's been a huge pain in the rear driving through there.

And a black eye as well.

TxDOT PM stated that new completion date is set for December!

Of course not. Just like they didn't want the by-pass. Just like Port Isabel doesn't want a 2nd bridge that will take traffic and commerce away from their town.

Maybe when they get through at Fal they can do something about Premont. Without those tickets that town will just blow away. I don't get speeding tickets very often but when I do, guess where!

Left McAllen at 3:30 this afternoon for a quick hs playoff game in san antonio. Just made it back home and im glad to report i saw new equipment on the site in Fal.

Oh, and Premont still sucks.

I grew up in Alice many years ago. I don't get back very often, but it's a different area now. The bypass killed 281 going through town.

I drove though Fal twice this week and it is worse than it was. I am sure the the folks in Fal DON'T want the new improved hiway...but all of us that have to drive through there sure do!

Also, Fal may just be the most depressing place on earth. I have to visit in and around Fal every so often for work and that place is just a giant ****hole. If you think it looks bad from the highway, you ain't seen nothin'. Drive back there around the schools...it's like the clock stopped in the 50's....only aging and deterioration continued.

I know what those places looked like in the 70's and 60's so if they haven't changed it is bad. Our buses always stopped at a restaurant there back in the day on the way back from games etc. Beefeaters maybe?

It has probably been stuck in my head longer than yours but what is surprising is the number of people that know the answer (ok, maybe not so many on this forum).

Born in Fal, raised, live and work in Alice and this is the first time i have ever heard the yoke, what is a yoke? What came first: the chicken or the egg, ha ha, that is a yoke!!!!
