James William “JW” Dyer
1953-2013
McAllen-James William “JW” Dyer, 60, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 29, 2013 due to sudden cardiac arrest.
JW, a Valley native, graduated from PSJA High School in 1971. He was a proud member of the Class of ’75 Fighting Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, serving as the Parson’s Mounted Cavalry Stable Master. Upon graduating with a BS degree in Civil Engineering and a BS in Agricultural Engineering, JW served his country as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, beginning at Officer Basic in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Following his service, he became a Registered Professional Engineer, as well as a Registered Public Land Surveyor. He went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas School of Law. JW practiced law in the Rio Grande Valley since 1987 and owned his own firm, Dyer & Associates.
JW was an avid adventurer and loved hiking and camping with his family. His most recent adventure was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with his wife, Cecily, and two of his children, Briannah and Joseph Micah. His love for adventure also led him into becoming a Boy Scout Master for more than twenty years where he was able to mentor multiple generations of scouts. JW went through every adventure with a smile and a positive attitude.
JW is preceded in death by his son Malcolm Paul Dyer.
Left to cherish JW’s memory are his wife, Cecily, and their four children, Sarah (Richard) Fryer, Noah (Brandi) Dyer, Briannah Dyer, and Joseph Micah Dyer; along with two grandchildren Caleb James Dyer and Logan Grady Dyer. JW is also survived by his parents Malcolm “Newt” Dyer and Mary Agnes “Maggie” Dyer; siblings Philip “Phil” (Mary) Dyer, Theresa (Richard) Arizmendi, Robert “Bob” (Christina) Dyer; nieces and nephews Nicholas (Carrie) Dyer, Gregory Dyer, Matthew Dyer, Jeremiah “JJ” Arizmendi, Emily (Jim) Miller, Christopher Dyer, Lucas Dyer, Nathaniel Dyer, and Zachary Ross. JW also leaves behind sister-in-law Melissa Ross and brother-in-law Paul Silvernale.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission from 4pm to 7pm with a Rosary from 7pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass will also be at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 10am. Pallbearers will be Noah Dyer, Richard Fryer, Joseph Micah Dyer, James “Jimbo” Bitner, Juan Fuentes, and Steven Younger. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date.
