A few weeks ago I was hunting south of I10 between Junction and Sonora. Went to the country store in Roosevelt and ran into a group of Federal immigration agents, all in uniform and armed. I asked what was going on and was told they were in a 30 plus vehicle convoy from San Diego Cal and other SW states. He claimed things were slow in San Diego and that they were being sent to McAllen for a few months because McAllen was out of control.

Is this news to you valley guys or same old same old?

The biggest fight for drug trade corridor corridor routes has shifted to Reynosa...so yes...there are not people walking the streets of McAllen with sub machine guns but across the Rio Grande it's a different story.

This area is probably the safest it's been in years. I'm no expert but I get the feeling the New Mexican administration understands the benefits of organized chaos.

To be clear, I was not referring to McAllen specifically, but to the surrounding region. I believe that is what the agent was referring to.

Laredo is safe. At least according to a billboard I saw the other day....

Let's get one thing straight: Laredo is a ****-hole.

Now, the area on 281 from north Edinburg through San Manuel and the rural roads that run through the ranch country is a completely different story. Very heavy LE presence. If you know any ranchers up that way ask them what they think.

There is a HUGE difference between lots of illegal activity and "out of control."

In these parts organized crime is highly preferable to a bunch of independent operators running wild.

No need for the winky face. You're spot on.

I'd say that overall the locals view the professionals in a similar light as West Virginians view moonshiners.

DPS was out in force this weekend in Hidalgo/Starr County.

We were down there for the south zone opener. Buddy also had his ranch flown to do a game count. When the helicopter went up the DPS were in contact with them immediately.

Apparently some bad guys landed a Cessna on hwy 490 last week to pick up a cache of guns and drop off dope (DPS claim)....so they were make a big show of force. Buzzed the ranch a few times in their helicopter on Sunday.

Out of control ,no.

Drugs, murder, illegal immigrants, and corruption, yes!
