An algae farm has bought the old shrimp farm in Arroyo City.

Rumor has it, "they know something" and will begin farming species of algae for bio-fuel production.

Upon further googling it looks like this is an old idea from 2006?

Anybody know about the place, I thought this was recent.

Met the guy running the operation at a Super Bowl party. Definitely working on production.

I have a lot of questions about this.

I feel as if they came this far south it is for a reason.

Ran into the guy running the ops again last night. Bill Schimandle is his name, moved down here from Victoria area. The company is Aurora Algae. They are packing up most of their operations in California and moving to Texas. Biologists and labs will be Austin-based.

The farm is right next to Chilie Willie's. Amazing hamburgers. We make the drive once a month for them from Harlingen.

Well if they are leaving Cali, hopefully it is to escape the business climate over there.

I initially thought they were either coming down here to dispose of waste products (which I have heard concerns of) or to utilize cheap infrastructure.

I am more concerned about the Arroyo ecosystem (or lack there of) especially at the mouth, and if this company were to pollute (even further) the waters, I am sure there would be some kind of fishing impact.
